Sephora is renowned as the global authority on cosmetics retail, and Bay aims to provide customers with free access to the full range of products while offering a memorable and immersive shopping experience. The store's design incorporates the iconic black and white stripes of Sephora as a visual focus, guiding the flow of people and enhancing the overall consumer experience.

What sets Bay apart is its incorporation of the concept of a bay, inspired by its location. The optical illusion and linear composition of waves form a Sephora bay, creating a visually stunning and unique experience for visitors. The lines on the black and white columns extend into the interior space, serving as a natural visual guide.

The design team, led by creative director Lei Gao, worked diligently to ensure that Bay stood out in a market saturated with similar brands and spaces. Through extensive research, both online and offline, they discovered a trend of homogenization among brands in the cosmetics retail industry. To counter this, they decided to focus on the location as a concept, strengthening the bond between the store and its customers.

The realization of Bay involved desktop research and market research to understand the requirements of the target customers and competitors. The project, spanning 424 square meters, started in January 2019 and was completed in May 2019. The store is located in the mixc, at 2888 Keyuan South Road, Nanshan District, Shenzhen.

Bay's design presented several challenges, including the need to balance artistic elements with practicality and accessibility for consumers. The team successfully achieved this delicate balance, creating a space that is both visually stunning and easy to navigate.

Recognized for its outstanding design, Bay was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2022.
